Private label yoga wear: the labelling checklist for US, EU and UK

Updated 24 October 2026 · WORLUXFIT sourcing team

A garment that arrives without the right labels cannot be sold legally in the US, the EU or the UK — and relabelling after the fact costs more than the labels themselves. This is the checklist we run before a private label order ships.

The short answer

  • US: fibre content, country of origin, care instructions, and your RN or business name where required.
  • EU: fibre composition, care, and since December 2024 a named EU responsible person on the product or packaging.
  • UK: the same fibre and care rules; check the current product safety guidance for the responsible-person requirement.
  • Care symbols follow ISO 3758 — five symbols cover almost every yoga style.
  • Labels are cheap (often under $0.10 per unit) but plate and set-up costs are paid once per artwork.

United States: what the FTC expects

Textile products need the fibre content by percentage, the country where the garment was made, and care instructions that reflect a tested method. If you trade under a name that is not your legal business name, you need an RN or the business name and address on the label.

  • Fibre order matters: list by weight, largest first — “75% nylon, 25% elastane”, not the reverse.
  • “Elastane” and “spandex” are both accepted; be consistent across your range.
  • Care claims are testable: if you print “machine wash cold”, you should have washed it that way.

European Union: fibre rules plus the new safety requirement

Fibre composition follows Regulation (EU) No 1007/2011 — percentages to one decimal place for a single fibre, and a tolerance for small quantities. On top of that, the General Product Safety Regulation has applied since 13 December 2024 and requires a responsible economic operator established in the EU, with a name and address a consumer can contact, on the product or its packaging.

  • If you are outside the EU, you need an EU-based fulfilment partner, importer or authorised representative to act as that operator.
  • Care symbols are the ISO 3758 set, not words, for consumer products in most EU markets.
  • Substance compliance sits with REACH, and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 is the practical evidence buyers ask for.

United Kingdom

Fibre content and care labelling follow the same logic as the EU, and the UK has its own product safety rules for consumer goods. Treat the label artwork as market-specific: “EU” on one side and “UK” on the other is common, and cheaper than two runs.

What this costs

ItemTypical costPaid
Woven main label$0.05–$0.12 / pcPer unit + one plate fee
Printed care label$0.02–$0.05 / pcPer unit + set-up
Hangtag + string$0.03–$0.08 / pcPer unit + plate
Polybag / mailer$0.04–$0.15 / pcPer unit
Artwork setup$30–$80 per artworkOnce

On a 300-piece order the whole labelling package is usually $200–$500 — under 5% of the order value, and the part most likely to delay a shipment if the artwork is not approved early.

The approval order that avoids delays

  1. Confirm market and size system before sampling — it changes the size label.
  2. Approve the care/content text with your supplier, in the destination language.
  3. Approve artwork: main label, care label, hangtag, packaging.
  4. Get a physical label proof before bulk. Screen colours on a woven label are not printable colours.

Questions buyers ask

Do I need an RN number?

Only if you sell in the US under a name that is not your legal business name and you choose not to print your business name and address instead. Applying for an RN is free and slow; printing your details is faster.

Can the factory supply the labels?

Yes, and it is usually cheaper than sourcing separately, because the labels arrive with the garments. Send print-ready artwork and a Pantone reference.

Does OEKO-TEX cover labelling?

No. OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certifies the fabric and accessories against harmful substances; it is not a labelling or market-access certificate.

What happens if the labels are wrong?

The goods can be refused at retail or by customs in some markets, and relabelling after import means paying for labour twice. Check the artwork before production starts — it is a 20-minute review.

Send your label artwork with your enquiry and we will confirm the wording against your destination market before sampling.
